Over the course of the band's 25-year career, the thrash-metal pioneers
of Slayer have been accused of inspiring murder and necrophilia (check
out www.elysemarie.org). They've covered "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"
for the Less than Zero movie soundtrack. And just last year they won a
Grammy for the song "Eyes of the Insane," off their latest
album, Christ Illusion. Wednesday kicks off the quartet's second
national tour this year, this time with Marilyn Manson...

After a four-year absence, Marilyn Manson has returned to the public eye
in the video for "Heart-Shaped Glasses" by porking his barely
legal girlfriend in a rain of blood. Considering Manson's affinity for
shock value, it was a grand reentry into the rock world. That kind of
flashy, trashy imagery may prevent Manson from ever being taken
seriously as an artist, but his followers are still out there...

Slayer has posted its new track, "The Final Six", on the
band's MySpace page. The song is featured on the re-release of Slayer's
"Christ Illusion" album, which is due on July 24. The
limited-edition set will also contain an alternate version of
"Black Serenade". The reissue marks the band's first
collaboration with new label home Columbia Records; Slayer left Warner
Bros. when longtime producer Rick Rubin jumped ship to head Columbia
back in May...

Talk about an unholy alliance. Speed metal overlords Slayer will be
teaming with shock-rock poster child Marilyn Manson for what promises to
this summer's most "interesting" tour. Whether that's a good
"interesting" or not we'll only know after July 25, when the
tour kicks off.

Guitarist Kerry King can't even remember the last time his band —
the iconic speed-metal maelstrom that is Slayer — played a gig it
didn't close out. That's because, with more than 25 years in the
business, Slayer have been a headlining act for quite some time. When
Slayer take the stage, no one else follows. Or at least that's the way
things were before the band decided to team up with Marilyn Manson.

This is the first in a series of albums that I feel are crucial to the
experience of the city of Los Angeles. These are the albums that endure
year after year, and continue to make me feel alive and thrilled to be
living in LA.

As you’ve probably heard, Slayer and Marilyn Manson are hitting
outdoor sheds this summer. So why is Detour reporting it now? Because
this double-bill, while always promising, has become one of the only
truly notable shows in the most fallow summer concert season in recent

"Marilyn Manson puts on a great show and his fans are very loyal as
our fans are. Like Slayer, Manson has had his share of
controversy, and like Slayer, he's never backed down from that.
And also like Slayer, Manson is outspoken and has taken a lot of grief
for being that way. While there are similarities between us, there
are differences too, and we think that the combination of those factors
will make for a very interesting, possibly surprising, but definitely
very entertaining show for both Manson fans and Slayer
fans." -- Tom Araya,
